St. John's Physiotherapy
When I started going to the clinic I was on long-term disability leave from my job; I could not sit or stand for any length of time; I could not lift things and I had no energy. During the past year, I have received low intensity laser therapy steadily at the Avalon Laser Clinic. This has been supplemented with various treatments at the clinic such as physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage and athletic therapy. Since receiving treatment from the clinic, I have returned to work full time and even taken up yoga classes. I am so happy to be back on track in my life thanks to the Avalon Laser Health Clinic.
MOVE THROUGH LIFE
Our bodies were built for motion... playing with kids, hiking, walking. Living life to the fullest. If you have a range of motion or pain that is keeping you from moving like you want, physiotherapy can be the answer.
Physiotherapy isn’t just something that’s done to you, it’s a transfer of our know-how and skills to you to help you achieve your health goals. Physiotherapists are trained to treat, and train you to manage your musculoskeletal problems and injuries.
Physiotherapy rehabilitation involves a variety of techniques, including exercise therapy, postural, gait, balance and coordination re-training and manual manipulation and/or mobilization of tissues and joints. Physiotherapists often work with athletes to improve performance, and everyday folk dealing with the wear and tear of life.
At Avalon Laser Health, physiotherapy treatment offers the advantage of low intensity laser therapy when it is considered helpful to the client. We use the Egoscue method of postural assessment to identify hidden dysfunctions which often underlie the presenting problem.

HOW PHYSIOTHERAPY WORKS
Physiotherapists use many hands-on techniques, and modalities in the management of dysfunction and pain disorders. The essence of all treatment plans revolves around restoring motion and physical function. Physiotherapists are trained to assess injuries of muscles and joints and to establish effective treatment routines.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Avalon Laser Therapy, your treatment begins with a full assessment that will consider your health history, previous therapy and a clinical assessment of your injury. The assessment will take an hour. Depending on the findings, your treatment plan may include education about your condition and preventing further injury, laser therapy and an exercise program.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT/ TREATMENT?
Wear comfortable clothing and bring sneakers or running shoes. Your therapist will need to check your full range of motion in the area of injury so come prepared to move a little.
DO I NEED A PHYSICIAN’S REFERRAL?
It depends on your insurance provider. Our physiotherapist does not require a physician referral to treat you, but some insurance providers require a physician referral in order to cover or pay for your treatment. We recommend that you call your insurance provider to determine if a physician referral is required.
WILL THE EXERCISES HURT?
Discuss this and any other concerns with your physiotherapist. Careful direction, education and diagrams will be provided to assist you. One on one training on the correct execution of the exercises will be provided. Exercises can also be tailored to meet your present capabilities.
