WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY AT AVALON LASER HEALTH?
Physiotherapy at Avalon Laser Health is a health profession that uses physical means to treat injury, pain, and mobility issues. Physical methods include but are not limited to; exercise, postural correction, manual manipulation and/or mobilization of tissues and joints, and laser therapy for pain relief.
WHAT DOES IT HELP WITH?
The key results of all physiotherapy are to help you recover from pain, restore healthy movement patterns (i.e flexibility and mobility), and build a stronger body that is less likely to injure in the future!
Commonly treated conditions include:
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Spinal conditions and nerve impingements
- Back and neck pain (including degenerative disc disease)
- Hip and knee pain (including pre and postoperative care)
- Foot and ankle pain
- Shoulder pain and stiffness
- Elbow and wrist pain
- Postural dysfunction
- Acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries
- Sports injuries
- Motor vehicle injuries
- Neurological conditions
Physiotherapists provide so much more than simple injury rehabilitation. At the heart of their work is an understanding of abnormal motion and the pain problems it creates. When it hurts to move, Physiotherapy should be your starting point. Physiotherapists work with both athletes and everyday folk to relieve pain, restore movement, and improve performance.
HOW PHYSIOTHERAPY WORKS
Physiotherapists use many hands-on techniques, and modalities in the management of mobility and pain disorders. The essence of all treatment plans revolves around restoring motion, posture and physical function. Physiotherapists are highly trained in the assessment of injuries to muscles and joints, and to create an effective treatment routine designed for you.
WHO IS A QUALIFIED PRACTITIONER?
Physiotherapists in Canada have a masters degree in physiotherapy (PT) and are required to write and pass a Physiotherapy Competency Examination to qualify for registration within their province of practice. Their education never stops, and individual physiotherapists acquire expertise in their areas of interest. At our clinic, it all starts with good posture and alignment.
WHAT TO EXPECT
At Avalon Laser Health your treatment begins with a full assessment that will consider your health history, previous therapy and a clinical assessment of your injury. The assessment will take close to an hour. Based on the assessment findings, we work with you to design a program that addresses your goals and still respects your lifestyle.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO A PHYSIOTHERAPY ASSESSMENT/ TREATMENT?
Wear comfortable clothing and bring sneakers or running shoes. Your therapist will need to check your full range of motion in the area of injury so come prepared for a workout to ensure you can move through the visit comfortably.
DO I NEED A PHYSICIAN’S REFERRAL?
It depends on your insurance provider. Our physiotherapist does not require a physician referral to treat you, but some insurance providers require a physician referral in order to cover or pay for your treatment. We recommend that you call your insurance provider to determine if a physician referral is required.
WILL THE EXERCISES HURT?
Discuss this and any other concerns with your physiotherapist. Careful direction, education and diagrams will be provided to assist you. One on one training on the correct execution of the exercises will be provided. Exercises can also be tailored to meet your present capabilities.
