Deconstructing the Benefits of Collaborative Practice
I often notice puzzled expressions on clients’ faces when I mention that Avalon Laser Health (ALH) is a Collaborative Practice clinic. For many clients, that’s the first time they’ve heard this phrase applied to the health field. If you’ve ever wondered about it, this post is for you! We’ll discuss first what Collaborative Practice is and then what it means for you here at ALH.
Collaborative Practice
Collaborative Practice is, at is simplest definition, a system of health care where medical professionals work together to create a plan of treatment for the patient. When providers in a health clinic collaborate, the treatment plan changes from an individual practitioner approach to a system-based team approach. At ALH, Collaborative Care means that our team of physiotherapy, acupuncture, nursing, and massage therapy professionals share, with your permission, the details of your condition and treatment. Your needs are discussed with the team and your treatment plan reflects the best practices and recommendations of our team of medical professionals.
Advantages
- Your health is assessed from multiple disciplines, which means that we are able to see a more comprehensive picture of your symptoms and what it means for your wellbeing. That’s especially important with complex and chronic pain presentations.
- You have access to expanded health benefits. This means that you’ll be able to finish your comprehensive treatment plan. Many extended health clinics don’t have the coverage to support you from start to finish; we do.
- Your progress is accelerated and improved because we include elements of physiotherapy and acupuncture in our collaborative treatment plans.
- You get the support and help you need, when you need it. Our team approach means that we’re able to more easily refer you to other treatments as your recovery progresses.
As we work through this process together, make sure you understand your extended health insurance coverage. What kind of coverage do you have? Are there limitations to it? All of our treatment plans are patient-specific and under your control; we will work with you to tailor your treatment plan to your best advantage. Our goal is to help you get better so you can get back to living.
