Maggie grew up in rural Nova Scotia. Out of high school she followed her passion for Biology and attended the Nova Scotia Agricultural College studying Plant Science from 2004-2006. This lead her into working in greenhouses.
Her career path evolved when she moved to British Columbia; she spent a decade working manual labour: treeplanting, pine cone picking, fruit picking, and farming. With strenuous labour jobs comes experience with multiple forms of injury and the desire to eventually work a career with less physical repercussions. She started her gradual transition into a new career path with an Herbal Practitioner certificate through the College of the Rockies. Then a Mental Health and Addictions Support Worker certificate through Camosun College in Victoria, BC. In 2018, Maggie chose to move home to Nova Scotia to be around her family while completing a diploma as a Physiotherapy Assistant/ Occupational Therapy Assistant. One of Maggie’s childhood friends lives in Newfoundland, so she used the opportunity to visit her friend and Newfoundland by completing one of her practicum placements here in St. John’s. She fell in love with Newfoundland & it’s people and decided once school was finished she’d return to live.
Maggie moved up to Newfoundland in March 2020.
She has completed her advanced certification training in laser therapy and is now registered through the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists of Canada. Maggie uses her knowledge gained through collective years of education and personal experience to best support the rehabilitation of muscle, joint and pain conditions with laser therapy as a part of the treatment plan of the clients of Avalon Laser Health.
